RISK MANAGEMENT IN PRIVATE PRACTICE
Booking for Risk Management in Private Practice closes tonight at 10 pm, and we start tomorrow.
So if you’ve been meaning to sort out how your practice handles risk, now is the moment.
I created this training because I kept watching good, experienced therapists carry a quiet, constant anxiety about risk once they moved into private practice.
And most of them aren’t anxious because they don’t know how to have the conversation.
They’re anxious because, once that conversation has happened, there’s nothing around them.
When you leave an organisation, the infrastructure doesn’t come with you:
➡️ There’s no duty system or team next door, so when something worries you, you’re holding it on your own.
➡️ There’s no safeguarding lead down the corridor, so you’re left wondering whether you really know the pathway where you practise.
➡️ There’s no one who’s thought about what happens to your clients if something happens to you.
That uncertainty usually pushes us in one of two ways.
We become so cautious that we turn away anyone who mentions suicidal thoughts.
Or we take on people whose needs really require more than one therapist can offer, because we’re not sure where the line is.
But you don’t need to:
❌ Do another risk assessment course. You already know how to assess and ask about suicidal thoughts.
❌ Have all the answers. Risk work will always involve uncertainty and clinical judgement.
❌ Hold it all on your own. Private practice doesn’t mean working without support. It means choosing your support in advance.
✅ You just need a plan.
You need one clear framework for thinking about risk across your practice, one audit that shows you what you already have and what’s missing, and one set of people and pathways you know you can call on when something changes.
That’s what I’ve built my own practice on.
I’ve worked in mental health for thirty years and in private practice for fifteen of those. Fortunately, the times a client’s safety has been seriously in question have been rare. But every one of them was easier to manage because the practice around me was ready.
When you book, you get:
a practical live workshop on risk in private practice
a facilitated peer discussion working through anonymised scenarios together
recordings of both for three months
the Private Practice Risk Audit and editable templates
a CPD certificate
I’m not saying this will make risk feel comfortable. It isn’t meant to, and it shouldn’t.
But I do believe that:
You can work with clients who experience suicidal thoughts without feeling frightened every time it comes up.
You can know what you can hold, what you can’t, and what you’ll do when things change.
And you can have a practice that’s prepared for risk, rather than one that’s just hoping nothing happens.
That’s what this training is for.
Booking closes tonight at [time].

PS A year from now, you’ll either have a practice you’ve audited, with a plan you trust, or another year of hoping you’d know what to do if something happened.
