Don’t Forget: Your July Tax Payment May Be Due

A quick, unglamorous reminder before I let you get back to your day:
If you complete a Self Assessment tax return and HMRC has asked you to make payments on account, your second payment is due by midnight on 31 July.
And just to clear up a possible point of confusion: Making Tax Digital hasn’t replaced this payment. It changes how some sole traders keep records and report their income, but payments on account are still normally due in January and July.
This is the tax payment that catches people out every year.
January’s bill gets all the attention. It’s the one everyone talks about, the one you brace for after Christmas and the one that is difficult to forget.
The July payment arrives much more quietly.
