Is It Time to Rethink How We Offer Therapy?

In this post, we're looking now at how to price your therapy packages — ethically, sustainably, and in a way that truly reflects the value you offer also allowing you to meet your financial goals.

Therapy packages are more than just a pricing strategy — they’re a business model that supports both your clients’ journey and your financial wellbeing. When designed well, packages improve client engagement, reduce dropouts, and give your work more structure and flow.

From a business perspective, they offer clearer income forecasting, reduce the admin associated with weekly bookings, and create space for deeper therapeutic work. If you're aiming for consistent £5K+ months from £100/hour sessions, packages help you align your pricing with your values while making your business more sustainable.

This post will walk you through how to price your therapy packages in a way that adds real value for your clients — and protects your time, energy, and income goals.

🎯 Outcome-Driven Pricing: More Than Time for Money

When pricing your packages, ask yourself:

  • Are you simply multiplying your hourly rate?

  • Or are you offering a structured, supported experience that actually brings about real change for your clients?

As you work toward consistent £5K+ months, it’s helpful to move from a "session-by-session" model to one that recognises the wider support you provide — without overextending yourself.

It's natural to want to encourage bookings, and sometimes the idea of offering "buy one, get one free" or heavy discounts can feel like a generous place to start. But when you’re charging £100 per session, just a few discounted hours can have a big impact on your monthly income — and the message it sends.

Instead, focus on creating packages that reflect the true value of what you offer. Add support that’s meaningful to the client, but doesn’t cost you more live time: email check-ins, journaling prompts, curated resources, or priority scheduling. These small touches elevate the package without lowering your worth.

🧘 Therapist Capacity & Sustainability

Your pricing should reflect more than time in the room. Consider:

  • Admin time (summaries, follow-up)

  • Emotional labour

  • Preparation or reviewing notes

  • Holding your client in mind between sessions

A sustainable package supports the client and protects your wellbeing. Before you offer a package, ask:

  • Can I realistically deliver this without feeling stretched?

  • Do I have systems in place to manage added elements (like email support)?

  • Will this model help me build toward financial and emotional sustainability?

✍️ Start small. One or two well-thought-out packages can help you refine your rhythm and offer real value without burnout.

➕ Adding Bonus Value (Instead of Discounting)

Here’s how to increase the perceived value without lowering your rate:

PackagePriceIncludes6-Session Package£600 (£100/session)+ Email check-ins & a therapy journal12-Session Package£1,140 (£95/session)+ Bonus resource pack, priority scheduling

💡 Why this works:

  • Your hourly rate is protected

  • Clients get more support between sessions

  • You show added value, not a discount mindset
