RISK MANAGEMENT IN PRIVATE PRACTICE

You’ll know this moment.

The session is nearly over. You’re starting to wind down, glancing at the clock. Then, almost as an aside, your client says something that makes you stop.

“Sometimes I think everyone would be better off without me.”

You know how to respond. You’ve had that conversation many times, and you’ll have it well.

The harder question is what comes after it.

Who would you ring if you needed to talk it through?

Do you have their GP’s details?

Does your therapy agreement say what happens if you need to share information?

If you work online and the screen froze at that moment, would you know where they are?

In an NHS team, the organisation around you handles most of that. In private practice, it depends on whatever you’ve put in place, or haven’t.

That’s what Risk Management in Private Practice is about.

It isn’t another course on how to ask about suicidal thoughts. It’s about the decisions that are specific to working on your own:

  • who you can reasonably and safely take on, and who needs more than one therapist can offer

  • what needs to be in place before therapy starts, including those free 15-minute calls

  • who you turn to when you need advice quickly

  • what happens when a client’s needs change

  • how you manage referrals, handovers and endings safely

Your booking includes:

  • two live 90-minute sessions: a practical workshop, then a facilitated peer discussion

  • recordings for three months

  • the Private Practice Risk Audit

  • editable templates and supporting resources

  • a CPD certificate for each session you attend

Booking closes on Monday.

You don’t need to be frightened of risk. You just need a plan for it.
