How it all fits together

Aligning your annual planning with your overarching business strategy and quarterly planning is crucial for a cohesive approach, ensuring every step you take contributes to your broader ambitions.

Think of your plan and vision for the year as the guiding star for your long-term business strategy. By vividly picturing where you aspire for your practice to be as the curtain falls on 2024, you're not just dreaming; you're strategically setting a significant milestone that resonates with and advances your overarching business goals. This vision then becomes the foundation upon which you'll build your quarterly plans, breaking down the grand vision into digestible, actionable steps. Each quarter then becomes a focused sprint, propelling you closer to that end-of-year milestone ensuring every effort is a step in the right direction.

Planning and Vision for 2024,

  • Think Ahead, Then Work Backwards

Start by envisioning where you want to be at the end of 2024. Imagine your practice and personal life as you'd wish them to be. This is about setting your destination first and mapping out the journey. It's a proactive step towards making your vision a reality. Do you want to ditch referral company referrals, start workshops, stabilise your income or increase your caseload or reduce it and go down to a 4-day work week, which we think is going to be a trend in 2024

  • How Do You Want to Feel at the End of 2024?

I love asking myself this question each year. It really helps you to align your goals with your emotional landscape; we are thinking about feeling more settled and more comfortable by the end of 2024, whereas this time last year, Sarah had started writing her book (Therapists Guide to Private Practice out in 2024, more news coming soon), 2023 was all about feeling accomplished and she did feel accomplished but also a little frazzled.

Over to you, "How do you want to feel at the end of 2024?" Accomplished, relaxed, busy, have more stability, feel empowered, or something entirely different? Let the feeling you choose guide your decisions and priorities throughout the year.

  • Professional Development Plan:

A therapist's training has never finished, and we tend to like a bit of CPD, so outline your annual professional development goals for the year, including any specific certifications, workshops, training or skills you are keen to enhance. A nourished therapist makes for a nourished practice.

  • Financial Goals: Earning with Purpose

Determine how much you need to earn in the next year. This isn't just about covering expenses or making a profit. Consider your lifestyle, investments in your practice and personal goals that require financial resources. This will help you set your fees, decide on the number of clients you'll see, and plan other income streams intentionally. It could be time to reflect on your fees have a look at the therapist fee calculator.
