Hello, so glad you are here!
Private practice is the only job I know where you do brilliant clinical work all day, and then go home to run a business you were never trained to run, on your own.
No staff room. No corridor chat. No one to ask “is it just me, or…?”
That’s the gap Therapists Corner fills.
Remember the staff room? Somewhere to share ideas, bounce thinking off colleagues, and get answers to the business questions that crop up every single day. Therapists Corner is the staff room we never had and for your practice, it’s what supervision is to your clinical work: a place for support, reflection, and proper strategic thinking.
This is a community for therapists setting up and growing values-led private practices, working with self-funding clients, and building toward sustainable income without burning out to get there.
You’re not behind. Wherever you are, you’re in the right place. Start slow, explore at your own pace.
I’m Sarah
I’m a CBT, EMDR and Compassion-Focused therapist, a supervisor on Professor Paul Gilbert’s CFT diploma, and author of The Therapist’s Guide to Private Practice: Building a Values-Based Business (Routledge). I’ve worked in mental health for over 20 years, and I’ve run my own practice in Wilmslow, Cheshire for over a decade fully booked, three days a week with self funding clients.
But here’s the part that matters more.
I spent years in the NHS, including IAPT ,session limits, waiting lists, too many clients in a day. I left for autonomy and a life that fit me better. And then I got it badly wrong.
I didn’t know how to attract self-funding clients, so I took referrals from agency after agency. I ended up overworked, underpaid, drowning in admin, and answering to ten different systems with ten different rules. I’d gone from one boss in the NHS to ten. I’d built a business I didn’t actually want to work in.
So I learned the business side properly, went to business school, hired coaches, did all the things that therapists are never taught and I rebuilt.
I let the referral companies go, focused on self-funding clients, and built a practice that’s been fully booked for years, on my terms.
I created Therapists Corner because I kept meeting therapists facing the exact challenges I’d already worked my way through. You don’t have to figure it out alone, and you shouldn’t have to burn out to earn a good living doing work this skilled.
Here’s the thing about doing this alone
You can run a private practice without Therapists Corner. Plenty of people do.
But here’s what that usually looks like →
You do brilliant clinical work all day, then face the business side at night, on your own, with no one to ask.
You take agency referrals to feel safe and end up with ten bosses, someone else’s rates, and a diary you don’t control.
You lurch between too-quiet and too-full. The boom-and-bust that never quite settles.
You keep meaning to sort the pricing, the policy, the cancellation wording and it stays on the list for another year.
You fall behind on what’s changing the legal bits, the tax bits, the things nobody tells you until they’re a problem.
And you carry all of it quietly, because there’s no staff room, no corridor, no one who gets it.
None of that is a skills problem. You’re an excellent therapist. It’s an isolation problem.
That’s the whole reason this exists.
Inside Therapists Corner you get →
The staff room back — people who understand the work, so you’re never guessing alone.
Supervision for the business side — a place to think clearly about money, referrals, and your next move, so you step off the boom-and-bust.
The clients you actually want — the confidence and tools to build a self-funding practice instead of leaning on agencies.
Someone keeping you current — pricing, legals, systems, the changing landscape — handled before it becomes a problem.
A practice that pays the bills and fits your life, built on your terms, not someone else’s.
Run a practice without all that, and you’re doing it on hard mode alone, exposed, and hoping. It’s not that you can’t. It’s that there’s no good reason to.
What I believe
Everything here is built on a few things →
Education & growth — strong businesses grow from continuous learning. We build confidence and clarity, not guesswork.
Community & collaboration — we go further, faster, together. A space where therapists share knowledge and remind each other we’re not in this alone.
Compassion & sustainability — we run our businesses the way we run our therapy: with care for the person first. Wellbeing alongside profit, not behind it.
Quality & integrity — everything I share is practical, evidence-informed, and genuinely useful.
The bigger vision? To be part of a community shaping the future of private practice — one where mental health care is diverse, valued and accessible, and therapists actually thrive in the process.
