In this Therapists’ Corner Spotlight interview, I’m joined by Alessia Renganeschi ADHD an occupational therapist and ADHD specialist based in Scotland, who is building her private practice alongside her employed role and CBT training.
Alessia has ADHD herself and is passionate about supporting women and girls who are navigating some of the challenges she’s experienced firsthand.
We had a lovely, honest conversation about what it’s really like to start a private practice, especially when you’re still building confidence and finding your feet as a business owner and therapist.
We talked about:
Why Alessia decided to move away from the NHS and build a practice that worked around her needs.
Why it’s worth starting your business preparations long before you’re ready to see clients.
The reality of waiting for those first enquiries and managing imposter syndrome.
How choosing a very specific niche has helped her attract clients through Psychology Today and Instagram, without needing thousands of followers.
How she decided what to charge by looking at her business costs rather than simply copying other therapists’ fees.
Building a financially sustainable practice that also allows flexibility for clients who need it.
How Getting Started in Private Practice and Therapists’ Corner helped her feel more confident about the business side of being a therapist.
One of my favourite parts of our conversation was Alessia’s approach to marketing. Rather than trying to speak to everybody, she thinks about one particular woman she wants to help and creates content that speaks directly to her.
It’s such a good reminder that you don’t need to appeal to everybody to build a successful private practice. You need to be clear about who you’re helping and why.
A big thank you to Alessia for sharing her experience so openly.
